Our history

The Hokkaido brand is a leader in Italy and Europe in the air conditioning sector, its success has been built step by step in over twenty years of activity.

HOKKAIDO is a leading brand in air conditioning for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
With over twenty years of experience, HOKKAIDO has built its reputation on reliable products that offer energy savings and efficiency.
The brand is owned by Termal Group, which created and launched it at the end of 1998. Termal Group is based in Bologna and has an international vocation, currently, Hokkaido products are distributed by the commercial company Termal Sales.

The origin of the brand

The origins of the HOKKAIDO brand are closely linked to Termal‘s commercial strategies. In 1999, facing competition from ultra-competitive models from China, Termal decided to develop alternative commercial channels, opening an import office in Shanghai: the HOKKAIDO brand was born with the clear purpose of selling selected products from the main oriental players.

More than twenty years of experience

Starting from 1999, the distribution of HOKKAIDO products developed widely throughout Italy, through the channel of professional installers and the network of electronics stores. HOKKAIDO has been able to establish itself on the market by offering a quality response to the different application of installers, retailers, technicians and end users.

An international reality

Starting from 2000, Termal’s activated distribution and commercial synergies: HOKKAIDO residential and commercial air conditioning systems have been distributed through a network of dealers and partners in central and eastern Europe.
Then as now, HOKKAIDO products are the result of a continuous commitment to technological innovation and careful testing by the technicians of the Termal Group: the Test Laboratory in Holland (active until 2009), the operational office in Shanghai which ensured until 2013 a more close relationship with the manufacturers, and the Academy in Bologna where the products are still available to customers for testing and training.

Adherence to the territory

HOKKAIDO has a strong presence in the Bologna and Emilia area, having sponsored local volleyball and basketball teams, and having collaborated with Ducati.

Fortitudo Basket Bologna

In 2002, Termal began supporting the Fortitudo Bologna basketball team, first using the HOKKAIDO brand and then Climamio, the franchising network of the Termal Group from 2000 to 2016. The HOKKAIDO brand reached its peak of visibility in 2005, when Climamio Basketball Bologna won the championship and was crowned Italian Champion.

Hokkaido sponsor Ducati from 2003 to 2006

Three years after its birth, HOKKAIDO is already an established brand on the residential air conditioning scene in Italy and part of Europe. In fact, in 2003 the collaboration with Ducati began. The choice to embrace the partnership with an important name like Ducati further strengthens the perception of a deep sense of belonging to the territory and proves successful when, in 2006, the Australian Troy Bayliss manages to win his second title in the Superbike world championship on the Ducati 999.

Distribution from 2009 to 2023

In 2009, the distribution of HOKKAIDO products was organized through channels dedicated to specific market segments and is entrusted to 3 different commercial companies.

The new corporate structure

HOKKAIDO Italia was the company dedicated exclusively to the distribution of HOKKAIDO brand products on the Italian market with a network of agencies distributed throughout the national territory. It was aimed at wholesalers and installers of the traditional hydrothermal-sanitary channel.

Climamio franchising

In Italy, the brand’s products were also distributed by Climamio, the historic franchising of the Termal Group which then consisted of 190 sales points, distributed throughout the national territory. A team of expert and reliable air conditioning professionals to support customers and professionals in all the phases necessary for choosing the most suitable products to satisfy diversified air conditioning needs.

International presence

Abroad, Termal International was the channel dedicated to the export of HOKKAIDO products to 30 different European and non-European countries through a network of dealers and commercial partners.
